Hi all,
Using a throwaway but I am a 23 year old who has just started working at a letting agency as a property manager for just over two weeks. I get paid just over £20k a year and the job hours in my contract are 9:30 - 6pm Mon to Friday and 10-3pm on a Saturday. This week I have been coming earlier and finishing later and I am ok with that because I understand there was work that needs to be done and finished and I was behind on that. However my manager (the owner of the business) has given me a work phone where tenants will call regarding emergencies etc and at the time I had no problems with that because everytime it had rung , he was with me and I felt comfortable dealing with it etc.
Now comes Sunday. I do not work on Sunday's and I want to relax and enjoy my only day off. My work phone rings regarding an emergency with a property with a burst leak and I am now currently trying to liase a contractor to go out and sort it. In my contract it says I do not get paid for any overtime but I am not meant to be working on a Sunday but this is clearly work? How can I bring this up to my manager without ruining my relationship with him? He is a bit of strange fellow as he can be nice and easy going with a bit of banter and then will suddenly turn into a very pedantic and stern fellow. Thank you for your help in advance.
