Offered less hours for contract renewal. What to do?

Last week me and my supervisor had a meeting regarding my yearly job review. She noted my achievements and gave her opinion on areas I could improve on. She said my work was excellent, but that she wanted someone to take ‘leadership’ for the next year. She then asked me if I was open to cutting my hours by 1 day a week, so she could bring someone on to job share with me, to supposedly take on ‘leadership’ parts of the job (I have no clue what this entails, because I’ve been doing everything for a year). She said the last thing the company wants is to lose me and that they want to keep me on permanently, with the reduced hours.

I said I’d think about it, but I’d be open to it if I could find another part-time job to supplement the lost hours. After the meeting, I sought the opinions of a few colleagues, who said her offer was outrageous - that they’ve done this to people before and that it’s just a way to save money.

What nobody knows is that I’ve been looking for a new job for a few months now, with the intention of leaving this job. I had hoped to find one by now, but haven’t been successful yet. My current contract ends this month and I was thinking of renewing it just to have a job while I look for another.

I’m at the point where I do want to renew my contract, but only because I haven’t found something else - until then, I see no reason why I should be paid 1 day per week less salary.

What would be the best way to approach this at my meeting with the supervisor this week, where my renewal will be discussed?
