It’s past two weeks from final interview with highly rated company, they say they are still interested but haven’t given me a formal offer. Should I move on or be patient?
Background Information: I (23F) am from Illinois and recently moved in with my boyfriend (26M) in Kentucky. I’m still rather new to job search and application world. I just completed my Bachelors Degree last May and have 3 years of experience working at a Behavioral Health Hospital back home. My Boyfriend’s mom works as a pediatric flight nurse for a well respected hospital in the city and suggested that I apply to their Behavioral Health Unit. This healthcare company is rated extremely high on sites such as Indeed and Glassdoor. The city itself is known for its healthcare and this hospital is ranked highly, even listed as a Top 10 company to work for in the city. The surrounding competing Behavioral Health Hospital’s ranking are less than the hospital ranking (no ranking for specific unit though) and the pay is estimated much lower than this hospital (around $5 less). His mom did warn me that the Hospital’s HR sometimes takes a long time with the hiring process.
Timeline: 9/20: Submitted Online Job Application for Position.
10/8: Initial email from HR requesting interview.
10/17: Email scheduling first interview with HR for 10/23.
10/23: Attended HR interview and it went exceptionally well. Was asked to talk to the Front Desk on my way out to schedule a second interview with the manager. After checking the computer for a while, the lady working the Front Desk told me that since the manager had a booked schedule, they would have to get back to me on a date and time.
10/25: Email from HR scheduling a Manager Interview for the following week on 10/29.
10/29: Manager Interview on Unit at Hospital. Showed up and was told that the Hiring Manager that was supposed to interview me had taken the day off. Had a really informal “interview” with a different staff, without any typical interview questions. We just talked about my past hospital experience. Was given a tour and told that she thought I was well qualified and perfect for the position. Also stated she could not talk about salary as she didn’t usually handle Hiring. She said that she would pass along her approval to the Hiring Manager. As we walked out the door, I stated I hoped the Hiring Manager felt better. Was told “oh she’s not sick. She just took today off to study for school.”
11/7: No word back from anyone. So I sent an email to the Hiring Manager (who I was supposed to interview with) thanking them for the chance to interview and asked that since I had not heard back yet, if they were still interested. She responses within the hour with: “We are still interested. I just have a couple candidates left to interview.”
11/14: Now it is middle of November and still no word.
Final Thoughts: I did interview with another company and was offered a job. It’s a Psychiatric Prison which offered a pay of $15 but isn’t a place I would be able to grow long term. If I took the Prison job, I would have to start training at the beginning of December. My first choice is still the hospital, but I’m sitting here waiting for a formal offer as well being told what I would be paid. It’s estimated to pay much better ($16-$18) but this isn’t confirmed. I am less interested in some of the other competing Behavioral Health Hospitals, as their pay is $12-$13 across the area and are rated lower than the this hospital company. However I’m starting to worry about financial things such as bills and Christmas coming soon. Do I continue my job search elsewhere? Should I contact them Hiring Manager with a deadline? I’m worried of annoying the Hiring Manager as I did not have the chance to meet her in person and wasn’t able to leave her with a good impression of me. Should I just wait? Thanks in advance!
