I need more money, but I’m waiting on a security clearance and better job. Tough job, advice would be appreciated.

I meant to say tough position, not tough job.

So a bit of situation I’ve got myself into. I quit my last professional job 2 months ago without much foresight (though it was making me miserable, and I wasn’t able to land anything else at the time. I’m currently underemployed working as a barista. I’m only realistically given 30-35 hours a week, which just about covers my rent with $100 or so left over for living expenses. I’m barely getting by and to be honest I’m not sure how I’ll pay my rent the next month.

I’ve applied for a government contracting position and will have to wait 1-2 months for the security clearance to pass. I’ve tried applying to other jobs the past 2/3 months and haven’t gotten any responses. The job market is tough here I am (Washington DC). If I do happen to get a job though, I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving it after a month or so if the security clearance passes, because frankly I’ve been job hoping and quitting jobs (food service etc) these entire past 2 months because those jobs were bad for my mental health. I’d try Uber, but I don’t have a car.

Does anyone have any advice for my situation? Thanks in advance, much appreciated.
