I need help and advice regarding going from self employment to traditional employment again. (Help please)
Hi, so the gist is in the title. I'm fairly young, recently turned 23. I've been a self employed freelance writer since March of 2017. I've had a lot of ups and downs but recently, opportunities have become scarce. To elaborate, one of the sites that I use is filled with mostly scammers looking for free work or offering slave wages, job boards have also mostly yielded scams laden with keystroke loggers, and I can't get in at any of the content mills. t seems that writing is simply not going to pay for even one of my bills at this point.
I'm young, and I can always come back to it, but right now I need to get a job so that I can save up to move out of my current city. I've previously interviewed for part time jobs while being self employed, but when I get to the part where I sum up what I do for a living- I've been met with a lot of ignorance.
I either get people who kind of squint and go, "But HOW?!" and just refuse to accept that you can be a content writer or I've gotten extremely patronizing responses, with no offer at the end. How do I find jobs with this hurdle? Is there a specific way that I should doctor my resume?
As far as traditional employment goes, I've got pretty good experience for the kind of job I'm looking for. (Administrative experience, real estate experience, food service experience, clerical experience, and customer service experience) I'm looking for something that pays around $10/hr with decent hours and coworkers that aren't completely terrible, I don't plan to be there long because I want to move, but I need to be able to put up with the place for 6 months-1 year.
I've been applying for a ton of jobs this round and I haven't heard back, at this point, I don't know what to do and like many of you, I'm very depressed about it, and feeling a little discouraged. Although my fiance is supportive, I don't want him to have to bear the brunt of me not having stable income for much longer- he'd like for us to move to a nicer, safer city with more opportunities as well.
I appreciate any helpful advice, and thank you to anyone who read the whole post. I could really use some solid advice.
