I’m a twenty-something with a Master’s degree who just recently applied for a job at a school district that I feel I am well qualified for. After one interview and a week or so of waiting, I received a call saying I got the job.
The woman who called is the HR Executive Director. She began to list the benefits that come with the position, then casually mentioned that the title changed from a “Coordinator” role to “Specialist”. She also said the salary would be $48K, but the job description specifically said “starting salary of $62K.”
The offer letter also spells out the job as a contract job with a length of one-year, whereas the initial description stated it was simply a full time job.
Any advise on what my next steps should be? I told her I would like to wait to get the offer letter and will call to give my decision tomorrow. I called to get clarification on the change from Full time to contract, but had to leave a message. I know next to nothing about contract jobs vs full time.
What do you guys think? What questions should I be asking?
Note: I am fine with the $48K salary as it is still much higher than what I’m receiving now, but just want to make sure I’m not being lowballed.
