Got fired after 8 months..leave it on resume or omit?

Hi Everyone ! I worked in higher education in the mid-west and had crappy boss who let me go for political reasons after 8 months. Without wasting too much time on it, I tried to go the union, board, etc, but to no avail. It's been almost a year later, and I still can barely get any interviews within the same field. I highly suspect it is because I have the position listed. It's a super small field so most people know of each other. My previous position was about 2.5 years but I am tired of being looked over. I have had my resume checked by at least 7 people. Should I list it or not list it? I have already heard the suggestions of be honest and etc..but I still can't even get an in interview. thanks everyone
