Does answering yes to a question about disability make me less likely to get a job interview?

I'm a high school junior (16, close to 17) in California and I have not ever received any word back concerning a minimum wage job. I've applied to probably a dozen places in my area and have never gotten any word back.

I'm curious: does answering the disability question affect your hiring probability and is it illegal to lie and say no? Since they always give a list of disabilities and major depression (which I have) is on that list, I can't say like "oh I didn't know that depression made me disabled". Unfortunately, this question is always just a yes or no and only once has there ever been a "prefer not to answer" option. There is never a place to explain how I am "disabled". I feel like this is unfair to just lump all disabilities together.

Anyway, this whole situation is just making me a whole lot more depressed which is not good I know but that's just how it be. Thanks for reading
