Boss told me I have 2 months (60 days) before they let go of me - changed the amount of prorated PTO and I being let go of 21 days early.
I'm an at-will employee in MO, and was given notice October 7th by my boss that I have 2 months before they let go of me (terminated?). When I was hired, I was prorated with 10 days of PTO and during the notice, my boss told me I'm welcome to use my PTO to find a job. He acted as if they were going to be accommodating as possible. My boss recently told me my last physical day of work would be November 21st, and that they would pay me for Nov 22 (paid holiday), November 23 (paid holiday), and Nov 26th-28th (vacation days I booked last month).
On Monday, my boss's wife told me that I actually have 5 days of PTO because I haven't worked there for a year, and that they were gonna pay me an 'extra' 3 days (total of 7 PTO days used) to be nice. I noticed she was looking at an employee contract (which I never received, agreed to, or signed off on) for me and I told her that when I was hired, I was given the employee handbook that said I had 10 pro-rated days of PTO. She made some lame excuse saying "I understand that, but the 10 days PTO are for employees who have been here for a year."
The employee handbook I was given says: "No distinction is made between vacation days, sick days, or personal days off work. Each employee is prorated (10) days of PTO beginning January 1 or your hire date."
I had an unexpected emergency yesterday morning that ended me up with me having a $300 medical bill for my ER visit yesterday morning. It would've been nice if that 3 extra days of PTO could cover that.
It's evident that they are no longer in my favor. In addition, they've let go of 3 people (including myself) this year. When I kindly tried to take my stance with my boss's wife saying that the handbook I received said I had 10 days PTO, she was refusing it. Is there anyway I can fight this?
