Boss is hinting at letting me go on the 14th of December and no one is hiring right now. What should i do?

Hi. Obviously things are not going well for me.

Essentially, I began a job in august via a temp agency at a local restaurant business as a designer. In these short few months, i have been asked to do much more than what i was initially brought on to do, and i like think I’ve done them very well. I have recieved numerous compliments, encouragement, and even have recieved requests from other departments I don’t even work in to revitalize or redesign certain projects. Things i have done have quickly become customer facing, i have been invited to many corporate events, and i have been constantly assured that a ton of my coworkers really like working with me. The phrase, “i hope we get to keep you” has been said many times.

Things were looking promising to get hired onto them fulltime, but then suddenly many people were fired or “let go” of these last few weeks. My actual “contract” was to be at least six months (into February 2019), but then my own boss revealed that she is also leaving the company on December 14th.

Since then, i have only been working on one huge project that has been touted as a sort of “last hurrah”, and I didn’t get the understanding that there’s a very real possibility that i will no longer be employed after my boss leaves. This, coupled with a lot of enthusiastic advice about how the “next step in life is right around the corner”, and how “new opportunities are everywhere”, and a obvious meeting that consisted of everyone in the department getting ushered into a meeting without me was very sobering. The director loudly assured me that it “wasnt personal”, but then I overheard them loudly discuss me.

Just.. essentially, things were going extremely well and I didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just business and they have to stay on budget, and a second designer is just an expense they don’t think they need. That in and of itself is fine.

.... but getting let go of on December 14th is what’s really getting to me. I’m an hourly employee and it’s two weeks before christmas. I don’t have a car. I have several disabilities. I have major food allergies and sensory issues. Finding THIS job alone was a two month affair that left us in almost financial ruin, and now.. I won’t have any kind of money for rent January first. I had an emergency procedure happen to me last month that cleaned out our savings, and now I’m desperately looking for work that i can actually do, but there aren’t any new job posts at all. I’m working with several recruiters and they’ve all told me no one hires in December, which seems to be true since there’s not any new posts on linkedin, indeed, or monster. The usual jobs like mcdonalds or such require more than i have (transportation, money for uniforms, a therapist to deal with sensory overload, amongst other things)

I’m hoping that i can at least ask to stay till my contract right now, but that seems hopless, just like how finding a job is in the middle of the fucking holidays is. It’s so hard not to feel hurt by what’s essentially a business choice, but I’m just so crushed. This is the worst time of year for something like this to happen, and this is the worst thing to happen to me because I’m so fragile.

What can i possibly do??
