Applied for 3 identical positions in 3 different companies. One accepted me straight away, 2 rejected me without even an interview. Why?

I applied for 3 identical positions (internship for students, no previous experience required, just basic stuff like being able to use Excel) in 3 different companies (all multinationals).

A company called me the day after, gave me an appointment for an interview that same week, and called me while I was still in the car going back home after the interview to tell me I am hired (it is my company right now). I can tell for sure that they were not in a hurry to find someone, as my internship started more than a month after.

The other two rejected me immediately. I received the automatic refusal email in a few days' time, meaning that they believe I am so inadequate that I am not even worth an interview. And one of those two is a direct competitor of the one which hired me.

Someone could explain why that happened?
