I’ve found myself in a bit of a tough spot.
I’ve been working for the same company for 5 years and am close with the owners. I just started a week of vacation yesterday and won’t be returning to the office until Nov 5.
Yesterday morning I received an offer letter from another company and I want to accept the offer. However, they want me to start no later than Nov 12, and they are aware of my vacation. Originally had wanted me to start Nov 5 but pushed it to Nov 12.
I’m torn about how to give my notice. I’m not under contract with my current company so I don’t have a legal obligation in Ontario (that I know of) to give 2 weeks. However, I really do love my bosses and respect them immensely and would like to give as much notice as possible and ideally in person. I’m out of province for the next week, though.
Should I set up a call/email them while I’m away to give them extra time and consider it 2 weeks? Or should I tell them in person and give just one week?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
