My direct supervisor resigned 2 weeks ago. I was his assistant and he encouraged me to apply for his former position. I've been doing both jobs since he left.
Today our manager reminded me that the position was still open and wondered why I don't apply, since I already know the job. I informed him I did several days ago. He was surprised because HR had only given him 1 application (not mine).
Would it be wrong to inquire at HR the status of the application?
