For some background, I’ve been working with my current company for about 3 years. Recently, they announced that the new starting pay is only $3 less than what I make as a key holder. I asked for a raise and I was told to bring a job offer with more money and I would get the amount on the offer. I brought in an offer for $7 more an hour than I make now. Yesterday, I was offered by the company I’m at $4 more an hour than I make now to stay. Obviously, that’s a huge difference and not a good one. Along with the hell that getting a raise has been, the environment at this job is horrible and my responsibilities are extending far beyond my job description. I recently got a new opportunity to work somewhere paying $8 more an hour. It’s a great job that’s more stable and I already know a lot of the people there and like them. I’ve already been told I got the job, but I’m waiting on an official offer letter to come through (probably at the beginning of this week). My main question is: how horrible would it be for me to quit my current job without notice? How bad would this be for my future employment? The place I’m hoping to get this offer from knows my current work situation and will be understanding if I go, so I’m not necessarily worried about that.
