Hello everyone!
I recently applied for a position within a small company. I was quickly contacted by the owner and had a virtual interview today which I thought went great. I was invited for an in-person interview on the spot.
A few hours later I got a text from my former boss saying "Owner called for me requesting a confidential statement. I'll put in a good word." I left things with my former employer on a good note, so I'm not very concerned about what they'd say. HOWEVER, I am pretty peeved that this interviewer would contact them without notice or my permission. Also, "confidential statement"??
Is it normal for interviewers to reach out to former employers without notice or consent? I'm considering withdrawing my candidacy.

Interviewer contacted former employer without permission. Is this move a deal breaker?
