I got screwed on PTO

So I just started a new job with a pretty decently sized private company. But today I just learned I got absolutely hosed on my PTO.

So I left my old job as an accountant, which I was at for about a year. It was my first year out of college, but I graduated during the height of covid. I majored in finance, but I took an accounting job anyway cause it was good money for the time being.

So a family friend of mine was able to get me an interview at his company. The job was awesome, I knew I could do it, and they offered me $60K+ with bonuses. Not great, but I can stick it out for a few years since I don't have any experience in the industry and desperately need an income but more importantly experience on my resumé.

During the interview processes I never asked about benefits or vacation. I countered their salary with 20% over and they gave me 10%. Without experience, I wasn't trying to step on anyone's toes or make it too complicated. I just figured everything would be standard.

So today, my 4th day at the job, a lady in HR goes over a presentation on teams for onboarding and the benefits. She gets to the end, the presentation mentions PTO but doesn't go into any specifics. So at the end she asked "any questions?" So I go, "yeah, can you explain the PTO and vacation days, etc." She says, "yes let me open the document. I should just put it into the presentation, everyone asks that question." I'm thinking yeah no shit.......

So she opens the absolute atrocity that is the PTO schedule. From year 1-5, it is listed as 5 DAYS OFF per year. 1 week. I couldn't believe it. I literally was almost speechless. I said "wow..... That kinda sucks." She goes, "yeah I've been at other companies with way more but I love working here."

So yeah, that's my story. I'm kinda furious at this point. It was my fault not to ask during interviewing but I've never heard of 5 days. I can't start using them until 60 days aftery employment starts, AKA January. So I will get 5 days off in the next 13.5 months. It is complete burnout territory. I genuinely don't know if I can mentally do it. And I'm pissed off that they hid it from me but it's extremely obvious why. And I'm very disappointed to start the relationship off like that.

Tomorrow I plan on asking the HR manager for a face to face meeting to vent my frustrations and ask to make it 2 weeks. I don't think it's unreasonable at all. If she says no, I'll go directly to my manager and share my concerns with him. I really don't want to spite my new company after 1 week but I feel deceived and I plan on telling them that. It can't hurt.

Any advice or comments you have would be appreciated. This is mostly just a rant but damn. I'm pretty upset. But I guess that's corporate America for ya :)
