Burlington Department Stores: Advice for an overnight manager position that seems too good to be true?
My nephew got offered a job from a distant relative who he's worked with in the past but doesn't know amazingly well. They want my nephew to be an overnight manager at a Burlington Department Store which comes with a significant pay raise from the Macy's store they are working at now.
They claim that all that will be required of them is supervision, no paperwork, none of the normal "managerial" duties the daytime managers have to do.
Always dis-trusting of others, my nephew simply doesn't believe it and thinks it's too good to be true. He believes way more work has to be involved and so he plans to turn the offer down before he even interviews.
It's a position they've been trying to fill for over a year now and no one has stuck with it. They claim it's because of the overnight shift, but if the job were that easy why can't they keep anyone?
He doesn't need the money (he lives on the family farm so his living expenses are close to nil) and would donate most of it to the local food bank we volunteer at that's in desperate need.
He doesn't want to burn his bridges at the place he's been working at for 10+ years to take a job that pulls a bait and switch that will end up overworking him to death and end up regretting it.
I know most young healthy people would jump at the opportunity and wouldn't think about the risks, but his health issues make too much stress a big no-no (just having to make this decision is negatively affecting him) and obviously health comes first.
At the same time it would be a shame if he missed out on something good for him (if the work is as easy as promised) and I'm also thinking about the people he can help with that money.
It's quite the conundrum.
We might be too stupid, but we don't know how one can overcome the trust issues so I'm asking here for advice.
If you work a similar position or under someone with the position it would be nice to hear your experience of the job, especially if it's at Burlington, but also other department stores, in order to try and gauge how legit the offer is.
It would be very much appreciated! <3
