A bit of background before I dive into the upcoming meeting:
My office is small and I am the only vaccinated person. A few weeks ago, everyone else was told they were being let go in the future if they do not get vaccinated. Likely my boss will be let go, some other coworkers may get the vaccine.
This was told by my boss's boss who has never spoken directly to me before.
Our results for the company have not been good the last few weeks, so I assume that this higher-up is being pressured by higher-up-still. He has been checking in with my manager very often, asking why results are not as high as they could be (likely market forces, as we have told him multiple times). I work in the transportation industry, which as you all probably know, is very difficult lately.
Onto the email now.
This regional manager (boss's boss) has emailed me asking for a 1 on 1 without even talking to my boss about it first (probably a breach of etiquette?). He said that he wants to get a better understanding of my role.
I have no clue how to take this or what to expect because it does not seem like he actually wants to know my role better. He should know what my role is, or at the very least talk to my manager about my role, she could easily give this information.
Is he simply cutting my boss out because of tensions between them? Is he going to reprimand me for performance being low? Does he actually want to hear possible issues I'm facing? I do what I can in my job, but ultimately, I can't control how our market is.
Any advice or suggestions as to what to expect would be appreciated greatly. I am quite nervous as I am relatively new to the corporate world. I have never experienced a skip-level meeting, especially without my manager's knowledge beforehand.
