A Refreshing Interview Experience

I have been job searching since 2016. I am employed, but I'm underemployed. Almost every recruitment experience ends up with me getting ghosted, me not getting basic info like comp (and me moving on), or either side just deciding to not proceed. It's really frustrating, but I also know I'm lucky since I do have a job.

Today, I had a surprisingly great interaction with a recruiter that works directly for the company to which I applied. Every interview, I try to get out of the recruiter the base comp range, the corporate title structure, and the corporate title for the role. For those not aware (some recruiters aren't, surprisingly), the corporate title is essentially where you slot in seniority-wise in the company, which is different than the functional title which describes what you do. So I can be a VP level project manager or an AVP level project manager, the highet level likely getting more in base and bonus, etc.

Anyway, getting this info is usually difficult. I either don't get an answer or I get some vague BS. Today, though, the recruiter I spoke with not only offered up this info before I could ask, but she also broke down the comp ranges by title at their company, and then told me what the range is for the role. Then when she saw that my expectations didn't sign with the title for the role, and I shared some info on my background, she suggested a different role at a higher title!

Amazing really. I don't remember any other recruiter caring enough about me to not only understand what info applicants want, but to also offer up a different roles that aligns better with my desires.

RECRUITERS - You are usually our first window into the company. Your behavior has direct impact on our decisions. If you don't treat applicants well, which includes providing basic information about the company and role, then we are likely to move on to other places that do care about us.

APPLICANTS - don't ever assume that the company will magically start treating you better as an employee than they did as an applicant. They won't.
