I currently work for a smaller IT company. Before Covid we had around 70 employees. Once of our biggest things when hiring new people is culture and we have gone as far as to not hire people because they wouldn’t fit in or match our “company culture“. Our company used to have weekly board game lunches, box seats two hockey games, food potlucks and cook off‘s, Christmas parties, etc. It genuinely was a great place to work.
Fast forward to now, it’s not the same. Everyone works remotely, and because everyone works remotely, we not have employees all over the country and no one in the office except for the team I work for. Events are non existent, parties are no longer happening becasue it’s too expensive to fly people in. The extent of our culture is a group chat of “everyone post of photo of you in a funny hat”. I hate what it’s become. But at the same time I don’t know how mad to get because I imagine everyone else is dealing with the same things.
