Hi everyone. I’m 22 years old. I keep my expenses low and live with roommates. My rent + ultil/internet is about $455.
I just got a job earlier in the year it is salary at 40,000. Due to the nature of the job, just a little over half of the year is not as busy as the rest. I would say on average I work about around 13 hours a week. Most of it consists of driving. I can make my schedule as flexible as I want— as long as it works with the people I’m meeting with. The job includes benefits of health, vision, dentist insurance as well as normal 401(k) matching. The thing I enjoy about this job is that it is flexible and for the amount of hours I work the pay is great.
However they do not pay for mileage. I have a 2013 Prius that I bought in Mid May and I have put on about 7000 miles related to work. But I don’t spend that much in gas compared to others since I get about 50 mpg, but still it adds up. Sometimes during the week we get notices to do ASAP work, so I’m kind of on call.
I definitely love the low time commitment of this job but the trade-off is lower pay, no advancements opportunities that I would have an interest of in (really only pay increase but probably will take many year to get above 50,000), and of course no mileage reimbursement.
I’m debating whether finding a different job that pertains to my degree, the 9 to 5 grind for a better pay, but I can’t shake how good my hours are right now. Or maybe even trying to find a side gig that Can supplement my current income (on the down-low of course)
Any thoughts?
