I've been with this company for 2 years. During this time we went through several lockdowns in this country and luckily I still have my job - but with a 20% reduction on my salary after 1 year. I'm on a work visa, hence extremely difficult to find another job.
This is a tiny company - run by a husband and wife. Now we have 4 staff including myself. Over the 2 years, we went through 5 other staff - quit/fired.
What I hate about it:
- Bosses don't communicate, they assume you already knew about something and expect you to act on the things you don't know.
- Bosses claim that they are saintly good - but they are so not.
- The female boss gets emotional fast and would shout at us!
- The male boss cuts in the middle of things with half knowledge - consequently increases our workload all the time with explaining etc.
- They don't run by rules. Everything depends on them - extremely case by case. You may get blamed if you did something based on the things they said last time in a same situation.-
- We were asked to go back to the office to work during lockdowns.
- Bosses would have aggressive arguments in front of everyone - so unprofessional!!
- I always have the fear of getting fired. At least another colleague (A) who's been here 5 years feel the same. The reason why I got the salary reduction - the boss pulled me to the meeting room and told me that they couldn't afford my original salary. Told me my colleague B who is truly outstanding only gets paid 65% of what I was originally paid. Then he said - if you find another job you can leave any time. But we are in the hospitality-related industry and no one was hiring. So I agreed to the pay cut. But later on, I thought of it - no way B was getting paid 65% of my salary. She wouldn't be able to afford her mortgage at that pay.
- They do unethical things..... Grey area in law, but definitely unethical. For example, the client accounts are never accurate. 90% of the clients never askes or just assume it was all correct, so never had real problems... Until we got B (accounts) who is really into details, she pulled out so many discrepancies during this 1 year she's been here and started asking questions and saying no to things. She told me she actually has a log of things that bosses ask her to do, just in case. Always has email trails. She even has a lawyer on standby....
- The previous accounts C - one-time female boss told her to refund a client money, and the boss wrote it on a piece of paper and gave it to her. C refunded. Weeks later, the female boss shouted at her questioning why did you refund?! C said you told me so... Boss said I never did! C couldn't find that paper at that time... a few days later she found that paper and showed it to me. Then about a month later, C quit.
- We are still in lockdown - and this time they are finally ok with staff work from home because of Delta. They still drive to work every day - 2 hrs commute roundtrip (I don't get it! They are in their 60s). But the male boss just called me today and indicating that wanting me to go back to work....
- So many other little things! I couldn't finish it.....
Why do I still work here...
- Bosses are flexible on leaves etc. They never said no to anyone's leave request.
- They managed to keep my job during the pandemic so far.
- I can't find another job.
This actually is the company I worked the longest so far. Other jobs I had to leave due to various reasons - I had to leave my favourite job because of visa situation. But I also kinda doubt that if there's something wrong with me ?!
I don't know... I guess I really need somewhere to vent...
