I can't stand phone interviews

The roles I'm applying for have all been remote, so interviews are either via zoom or phone. I find zoom interviews so much easier. I'm more confident and relaxed when I can actually see the person in front of me and am able to read their body language.

Phone interviews are just horrible. I lose a noticeable amount of confidence because I have less cues as to whether or not the person likes my responses. I find myself stumbling a lot, have a difficult time focusing, say "um" constantly, forget any responses I'd planned beforehand, etc. I feel like it's very noticeable that I'm struggling in a phone interview.

I'm currently interviewing with a company for a role I think I have a good shot at getting. The first two interviews went great. They were also both over zoom. My third interview with the marketing manager for whatever reason was over the phone. I definitely did not do as well and hung up having no real idea of whether or not I impressed him.

I'm really discouraged and feel like I might have lost out on this job because I can't maintain my confidence over the phone.

I don't understand why companies would opt for phone interviews rather than zoom? Isn't lack of body language an issue for both parties?

Anyway, mostly just wanted to vent about this. I somehow feel like I'm not the only one who feels this way.
