Employer rescinded offer

I signed a contract with this company and was due to start next week. I applied 6 months ago and had the interview in July and was offered the job shortly after. They just called me today saying that they are no longer filling the position. I already quit my old job and have no idea what to do at this point. She said they'll see if another opening is available in a different department but I know that will take months. Is there anything I can do in this situation? Is there any legal action I can take?
