Hey everyone! I'm very new to the world of salaries and need some help/guidance.
I'm an artist/illustrator and I just went from contract to full time with a client of mine. I'm super excited for this opportunity and love my client! I know that as time goes on I'll get a good flow of how to work on art and then other tasks (like office work) as time goes on, however, as of right now I'm just scared that I don't want to set a wrong expectation for my boss.
Most of what I need to do is well... draw! However, it is not good for me to sit at my desk 24/7 and draw draw draw draw one one project 40+ hours a week. Sometimes some art takes longer than other things and then other times I could push some drawing to another day when inspiration hits.
The creative process is a very unique process some times and, like I said, as time goes on it will even out with actual office work from some other projects in the future. Just right now though, my queue for the next few weeks is just drawing.
Like... I could just keep chugging through things and keep drawing, but I need to have a life too you know? It was a bit different when we were contract cuz I got paid for finished work. I didn't have to report in to him every day or feel like I need to work all 8-10 hours of a day to get work done. I had other clients and project too, so it mixed things up in my day. Also, some times I would do other things and then scramble to meet my deadline another day! Tis' the life of a creative.
Basically, I just want to avoid burn out mixed with going crazy since it's hard to create 24/7.
Does anyone have any ideas how to make sure to handle this kind of salary job?
