I've had a couple of interviews for an out-of-state job. The employer requested three references a week and a half ago, and tomorrow will mark one week since at least one of them was called.
I don't know if the other two were called or not. I know one was called because she volunteered the information. I haven't heard from the other two since letting them know they may be called - one of which was a former supervisor. I have no reason to expect these references to provide anything less than a glowing report on me.
In any event, almost a week has gone by since the one reference was called and there's been radio silence from the employer. I'm getting increasingly puzzled about what's taking so long, and increasingly unsure where things stand. The job remains posted.
With one reference being called last Tuesday, I thought I might have received an offer on Wednesday or Thursday. When that didn't happen, I figured they'd call Friday and give me the weekend. When that didn't happen, I figured I'd hear something today and that also didn't happen.
The one reference who was called said the call "seemed to go well," from her perspective anyway. It's a bit unsettling not knowing if my other two references were called or not - I feel uneasy about prodding in that kind of situation. It's also nerve-wracking that one of the other two references is a former supervisor, so he may carry the most weight, but he also relocated for a job that began today so maybe a call from my prospective employer fell through the cracks. I don't know.
My fiance's assessment of the situation is, "It's starting to feel like it's not going to happen."
Has anyone been in this kind of spot before, or does anyone here have hiring experience and maybe has some insights to share? Feedback appreciated.
