My boss is trying to guilt me into staying longer, did I give him sufficient notice? What should I do?
I quit a toxic, abusive, shitty job of one month as an executive assistant on Tuesday. I got a job offer from a way better company on Monday. I told my boss that my last day would be next Thursday (9/2 since we have the Friday before Labor Day off). He told me I need to give him more notice than that and give him sufficient time to find and train a replacement.
I posted the job listing all over the place and got him like 7 interviews. In each one, he tells them that he will be making his decision this week or early next and that I will be the one training them for TWO WEEKS. It’s like he just ignored me telling him I’m gone at the end of next week.
We have no HR because the company is small and shitty. Tonight, I wanted to send him my formal resignation in writing and copy the office manager on it, stating that I’m leaving at the end of next week, but I will help recruit and train while I can.
I know I can technically walk out the door right now, but I feel guilty for some reason. He’s been nothing but an asshole since I started here, but I feel like I owe him something which I know is not true.
I don’t care about this company, getting rehired, or getting a good recommendation. The only thing I care about is my stupid guilt.
What should I do? Did i give him sufficient notice?
