Does it matter how soon you apply to a job?

I’m job hunting and generally I only apply to jobs a max of 3 days after they are posted so I have a better chance of hearing back from them. I’m wondering if I should broaden the range to a couple weeks or even a month ago job postings. I’m a little apprehensive because I assume older jobs already found the candidate but just haven’t taken the posting down and I don’t want to waste time that could be going toward other applications.
