Was just offered a job, can I request a start date of May 2022?

I was just offered a job as a reporter at a major radio company. This has been my goal for 4 years. Unfortunately, when I heard the salary (30k) I knew that I was not in the financial position to accept. I knew the pay would be low but my best estimate was off by 15k.

I am changing careers. I currently work in finance and make around $110k a year. I'm leaving because I hate the work and writing has always been my release and ambition.

I was wondering if it would be professional to ask for a start date of next May. I'd use these next few months to save like crazy so that I can survive the 80k pay cut. Is there any way to request this professionally? Do requests like this exist?
