Being an easily skeptical person, I’ve never had the slightest urge to tell a current supervisor that I am looking elsewhere, no matter how easygoing they were. The two-week notice worked for me without burning any bridge. However, my current unit at my job seem to be super open with telling our direct supervisor that they plan to move on come this fall, for other sectors or to go back to school. Basically they gave notice months in advance.
With my current supervisor I feel like I would be burning a bridge (even if she doesn’t show it) if I don’t tell her that I’m also thinking of leaving once I secure another job. It could be in six weeks or six months.
TL;DR What are the benefits of being transparent with your current supervisor?
