1st job - I was laid off from this job due to Covid but I have recall rights because I'm union.
- I have five years with this company, it's union
- I keep my seniority which means I also keep my future pay scale increases
- The schedule is 12 hours, 4 days on and 4 days off
- I can swap shifts days at a time. So if someone someone works four of my days, that's 12 days off in a row and I can just pay them back by working for them.
2nd Job - This is a new one that I just started
- Basic 9-5 Mon-Fri Schedule (no shift swaps)
- Non Union
- pays $12K more a year than the first job
I didn't list the benefits or drive distance because they are very similar
It's not a matter of IF they call me back but a matter of when. When they do call, if I refuse, then it's the same thing as resigning and I lose everything from that company.
I'm spoiled from the first job because it's rare to have a schedule like that AND be able to swap shifts to get extra time off. I'm very big on the work/life balance and I feel this is too good to pass up.
At the same time, I feel that can be a handicap because if I ever wanted to progress to higher levels (whether it be at this first job or anywhere else) I would have to let go of that schedule luxury.
So what would you all do? Whether you have a family or are single, Which would you choose and why?
