I am interviewing for a start-up that seems quite good, very friendly employees, established business goals etc.
I had two interviews with them, following which I received an email with them offering me the job. We had discussed compensation during the last interview, so they mentioned in the email that they will get the salary + options + benefits approved by the board before they present it to me.
A day passes, and the CEO emails me, inviting me to do another interview later that week, pointing out that they need to know more about my X and Y skills. I tell them that I'm confused, because they offered me the job in the previous email. They reply saying that we need to know more to be able to get me approved by the board.
I'm not particulary an expert on the areas they want to re-interview me on, but I have worked with them before. I feel like the offer might be rescinded since the board probably told them that I'm not a match because I lack expertise on X and Y.
Is this ok? I thought it was very unprofessional, and a huge red flag. But I need the job, so I'll go along with the interview.
What would you do if you were me?
