Hello everyone, please hear me out
Next week I am to start a new job as a legal assistant in a great firm.
This is a great opportunity in terms of salary, benefits, and location. It was a lot more money than I expected because I don't have much experience. I got 2 other offers but they were significantly less money.
When I did my two rounds of interviews first with the hiring manager and second with the senior partner. They were so impressed with me and said I was an excellent candidate for the role. It was clear from the beginning I was gonna be the one picked for the job.
However, the senior partner, the person I will be reporting to, her tone of voice and attitude were very strict, passive-aggressive, and almost rude.
She kept repeating things like:
- "Fast past environment, we work hard, play hard"
- "Hope you're ready for constant constructive criticism and feedback"
- "If you're doing a bad, you're gonna know it, buddy"
- "You're gonna have to do 3 weeks worth of work in 3 hours sometimes"
- "If i don't have the case list every morning, I am going to flip out"
I asked a lot about company culture and management styles and all i sense is that this is an extremely toxic environment. They don't even let WFH because they think employees will slack so there's some crazy micromanaging going on. Also, the review on glassdoor is terrible.
I am so torn on what to do. This seems like a perfect place for me to grow in the legal field and they provide tons of opportunities to move up. But I can't stop but stress about the situation and how much it will affect my health and mental health. Maybe this is just how the legal field is?
I would really appreciate any type of advice or comment. Thank you
