Hello all,
I had my absolute dream job 3 round back to back to back interview today. I’m 1 year out of college with experience under my belt. The role is at a prestigious company for an entry level role. The phone screen was round 1 and the hiring manger interview was round 2 and that went extremely well. The first one went well as the person was someone who I was in contact before, was formerly in the role and was coaching me through the process. Things went wrong in my second interview where I had to talk to a managing director and his senior associate today, I was extremely nervous and against better judgement I took a small shot of makers to calm my nerves. It back fired and I felt even more nervous knowing that they worked in the prestigious nyc office and went to ivy leagues for the mba and undergrad. The interview started off well when I got on and it was only me and the senior associate, the md hopped on 5 mins later and seemed disinterested as they were on the computer working. Things took a turn for the worst when the MD asked what my GPA was and it’s embarrassingly low, he then proceeded to ask if I liked my school and how I got my current role. The senior associate started asking me harder questions and why should we choose you. It really rocked me as I started rambling and my voice started to crack. Not my worst interview but defining not close to my best.
Lastly I had an interview with another md and senior associate today, it went amazingly well as I sobered up and they asked me less questions about my schooling or experience but they talked more about what I could be doing. The md said at the end I’m sure we are going to hear back from us soon as he had to leave 2 mins early for another meeting. The senior associate and I talked a little bit further and offered me to reach out if I had any questions.
I have another interview tomorrow but it’s with a newer senior associate so I’m not as intimidated but is there any chance that I could still get the role? Does the hiring manager have the ultimate say? What can I put in my follow up letter to assuage my poor interview performance?
