Compensation correction with small business owner

I have worked as a non-benefitted contractor for the past six years in a family-owned business. In that time, I have not been afforded any benefits whatsoever and have not had a single raise. The primary business is real estate but there is a secondary business focus which I have worked in. My position is managerial in nature and involves day-to-day oversight of the department. Four months ago, the controller had a stroke and ultimately passed away. One of the reasons I was originally hired was because I had over 15 years of accounting management experience in addition to my professional experience. Since the controller became ill, I have done double-duty in both areas. I have been mindful that the owner was friends with the other employee for over 30 years and I wanted to be respectful of that relationship. The owner, however, has not brought anything concerning my position at all. I’m planning on scheduling a meeting this week to discuss it but thought I’d seek out some advice. He’s a “my way or the highway” sort of guy but I can’t stay any longer without a salary correction.
