So right now this is only something in the works, I’ve only had interviews with no formal offers, so it’s possible this won’t go anywhere.
I got hired a month ago for what seemed like my dream job. Staff loved me, pay is great, and it’s finally a job in my field (I came from retail before this).
However time has shown that this job does have one specific dealbreaker where I have to cold call other businesses to sell them our work. Regardless of how anyone else feels about this, it’s a dealbreaker for me and I won’t compromise since I left my last job because of sales.
Anyway, it’s been clear to me that the CEO here wants me to stay without me hinting that I’d like to leave. She has purchased me a brand new computer of my choice, given me a new office, invited me out to after-work drinks, and genuinely tried to give me any necessary tools to be successful here. It’s still not enough, and I feel terrible.
When and if I get offered one of these new jobs, how exactly to I break it off? I understand it’s usually polite to give a two weeks notice, but I’m too worried about the change in dynamic after I do that. I truly want to just send an email and never look at any of them again. They are also quite behind on work, so doing that would make the transition even more difficult.
Honestly, I’ve even considered lying about my reasons for leaving to avoid any unnecessary confrontation. I’d really like to just leave it at “personal reasons”.
Is there an easier way to do this?
