Hi All,
I'm currently a Recruiting Coordinator at a big 4 tech company and recently interviewed / received an offer for a promotion into a regular Recruiter role. I have only been with the company for about 6 months but was promoted quickly due to my previous experience working in recruiting for a staffing firm. I took this Coordinator Role as a way into the company with plans to show my worth and move up the ladder (it worked). However, the coordinator role's salary was quite low and non-negotiable. I was told that it's a great stepping stone and a way in so, I accepted assuming I would eventually get moved up and when that time came, an increase in salary would come along with it.... or so I thought.
For the original Coordinator Role, I accepted a $49K salary with a $7K signing bonus (56K cash total in addition to stocks, benefits, etc). The Recruiter role comes with a SIGNIFICANT increase in responsibility and is considered a "promotion". However, I received my new offer and they offered a salary of $52K with no signing bonus... This role would also require me to move to a city with a VERY high cost of living.
I've researched on Glassdoor and Reddit and know that other recruiters hired externally at my company (not through an internal promotion) are paid astronomically higher base salaries ($80-100K) and high sign on bonuses for the same level and role that I would be taking on.
I've asked some coworkers for advice and they said that it's sort of a known fact that external hires are paid significantly more than internal "promotions" which doesn't sit right with me...
I'm at a loss for how to approach this in the most respectful way possible as I absolutely want the job. However, I feel a bit awkward asking for the 80k base salary when the offer was only 52k.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
