I graduated last June in Film and Television. I focused in video editing. I lived in Chicago, IL and had to move to Texas this past November for monetary reasons / the job market. Austin has been on my mind for the past year, and I recently signed a year lease beginning this May.
Reasons for moving to Austin are to be a part of the new growth occurring there, and to make movies. I'm looking forward to it, but the filmmaking is more of a freelance vibe there vs a 9-5 salaried job.
Checking LinkedIn today, I noticed a peer from one of my classes posting about a job opportunity at the company he works at. He has climbed the ranks and is already an Assist Editor, which is a big deal for a person one year out of college. The posting is for a more creative directing role rather than editing, but its a good opportunity. I have a good shot at it.
My predicament is I just signed a lease for Austin, and while I can get a subletter, I don't know if this is too wishy washy and will burn some bridges in Austin. This seems like a good opportunity, and should I at least apply/put forth effort of talking with my connection?
