What to do if one company offers a position but you’re waiting to hear back from a position you’d like more?

I’m expecting to potentially get an offer for a position on Friday, however I’m in the early stages of interviewing for a position that pays much more and that is a better fit for me.

With that said, the other position is still a great opportunity so I don’t want to just assume I’d get the other job.

Is it super taboo to accept an offer and then rescind later on if you get a better offer during the two week wait? Any legal repercussions as well?
