As the title says. I started in the new job 1st of March - this Monday.
Background story: I worked at a bigger company for the past 2 years. It was a nice place to work at, and I achieved quite a lot and had recognition from my manager and above. I got promoted a year in, and was about to get promoted again when I left, this time also getting a team of two under me.
Of course it was not all sunshine, there is quite a bit of politics, especially when dealing with other teams (the people in our team were awesome but due to my tasks I had to coordinate with a lot of other teams), and I was dealing with a lot of different things on my own (I had this uniqueish status of being my own 1-person team directly under the department director to help out the other team members with various projects), without much support from others.
Then, last November my former boss from a previous company reached out that he had just started at a company and they are looking for people. I was flattered and we started talking. I liked the idea of a new place, less problems, less politics also due to the company being much smaller. All this with the additional bonus of a nice salary bump and being under a familiar person that I respected. We started negotiating and at the end I decided to leave and handed in my 3 months notice. Well, the 3 month has passed - I am not even a week in the new job and already wondering if I made a huge mistake.
Did I put myself into a worse position with slightly better salary just because the grass seemed a bit greener? Should I have been more patient to get the new team members and see how it goes with them? Or am I jumping to a conclusion WAY too quickly? (After all, 4 days is nothing)
My old company and boss made it pretty clear that I could go back and still get the promotion. My position has not been filled. I am thinking of talking to my old boss and seeing if I that is really true. What do you think?
