HR screening when referred to Hiring Manager by current employees.

Hi everyone,

I have a weird question. A job popped up a while ago, I am qualified for it and applied to it. In my industry, the hiring process is something like, HR department will screen, contact selected persons, trim down the list and send them off to the Hiring Manager.

With a lot of luck and effort, A major person in the company, referred me to the Hiring Manager directly.

Another person from same department I would be working in as well as the Hiring Manager, referred me straight to the Hiring Manager and told him to give me consideration.

I found out a friend of mine also applied to the same role, he got a reply from HR asking him some basic screening questions (eligibility, relocation, etc).

I never got any. Waited for another couple weeks. Devastated, thanked the referee and they told me candidates have still not been selected.

Now I am kind of wondering, do I still have a chance even if HR never contacted me?

Apologies if it seems odd or I seem impatient. This role is something I would like to say a golden opportunity in every aspect. I made a mistake of getting too attached to this role and cannot think straight.
