I’ve just received an email from a company I applied to almost a month and a half ago. It’s been so long, I assumed the position had been filled. However, they emailed to say I’m “under consideration, and they’ll contact me soon if I meet their qualifications.” What does that mean? How could I be under consideration if I didn’t meet their qualifications to start with? Does it just mean they’re reading my application materials and they might follow up if they like what they see? Could it mean they’re contacting references? Is it a good sign, or is it practically meaningless?
For context, I’ve been job hunting and unemployed since June 2020. This is an entry level position (which I am) at a large company that it would be a dream to work for, so it’s probably pretty competitive/lots of applicants. I’m planning to reply with something about how I’m grateful to be considered/thanks for the update/I’m still interested, etc. Anything I’m missing? Any advice helps. Thanks very much!
