Short Background: I’ve worked for a small startup for 2 years that makes money providing services primarily and a little through selling products. I love my boss and it is a family business that I believe in, but there have been some recent financial mishaps that have me a little uneasy. If things turn around and we make a big splash, I know I will be compensated more than fairly.
My dilemma: I just received an offer from a huge player in our industry that is for a sales position. Sales is something I have done before and thrived in. The benefits alone tell me it’s a no brainer and to jump ship. I’d be making the same paycheck or more, plus have limitless room to advance. However, the stupid part of my brain that feels empathy and takes risks tells me to stay put because it’s “the right thing to do”.
On paper the answer is easy, but in my head I feel like I’d be kicking a puppy if I left. Any advice from a small business owner or someone that’s gone through a similar situation would be much appreciated.
