How can I get a normal day job without a good resume for it?

I want to do film/videography work but am not making progress. So I want to get a job that I can do while looking for the ones I actually want. I'd like to work at a restaurant, hotel, or do some type of writing. But my resume is only good for filmmaking because that's what I have always done. So how do I get a more typical, steady job without a resume for it? My boyfriend thinks I should stop by some restaurants and ask for applications as a host, I can talk about how I used to be a housekeeper which was the most similar experience I have.
