So the past few months I've been exploring options about moving and made a bit of progress but could use some advice.
I've been in my current city 12 years. It's been great but I do feel it's time for me to move on. I am just no longer happy here, I think it's just too much memory and my friend group sort of fell apart. I think starting over in a new city would be really good for me. I sort of feel burnt out on things here. I have savings and nothing here tying me down.
I have a new city scouted and selected, but I'm worried about my job. I only took this job six months ago, and the deal with it was that it is totally remote. But when I asked my boss about moving, he told me he would be disappointed if I did. He wants to meet up in shared work space starting in a few weeks when we can get the vaccine.
I asked HR without mentioning my boss and they said I can live anywhere in the USA and that we just had two employees start in the state I am looking at. I also asked a close friend at work who is another manager and he said go. When I hired they said the position was remove and we don't have an office. I work for a Fortune 500 company so taxes aren't the issue. We have people in every state.
Every since I asked about moving my boss has been badgering me about whether or not I am moving and seems very on my case. I don't think he likes me that much now, which is the first time in my career I've had that with a boss. I think if I go he'll find a reason to bag me. Which would mean giving up my signing bonus (I think) and being in a new place without a job.
That being said it seems silly to not go because of his issues, and I think I could find a new job eventually.
I don't want to put my life on hold. I need a change. But am I being wreckless?
