Anyone have experience with relocating for a job?

Hello everyone,

So I'm looking into relocating for a job at some point, ideally by next year. I've done research on this and have a basic idea, but I truthfully have not a clue as to how I'm going to make this work. I graduated in 2018 with a Finance degree and have been working in the criminal research field ever since. I hear from people that it's basically impossible unless you're a highly qualified candidate in whatever field, or you have some crazy in-demand skillset. I also hear that relocating is completely normal and people do it all the time.

I'm clueless. How will I line up moving in vs. the start date at the job? Is there a way to make your resume seem more attractive to employers when applying out of town/state? I know many prefer local candidates vs out of town/state candidates because it's just easier, which makes sense. Still, I do know people relocate for jobs (duh), I just don't really know the steps taken to achieve this. I've thought about just taking the plunge, moving and THEN finding a job... but at the end of the day, this is a terrible idea and a huge gamble on my part.

Or maybe I'm just overthinking all of this. Anyone have any tips, suggestions, insight on relocating for a job and what the general process is like?
