After having worked at the same company for 20+ years, and not sending my resume outside the company even once in the first 20 years, I am now in what I hope is the final stage of getting a better job. While preparing my resume, preparing for interviews, and now preparing to give a seminar as part of the application process with one company, I have realized that having access to detailed data about your accomplishments is critical. Information such as metrics about projects that you have worked on, even screenshots of the product that you helped build may be hard to get if you find yourself having to look for a job after being laid off and losing access to all of that information. For example, if you work on a B2B product, you may not be able to get customer-level access to the product you helped build even if you are willing to pay for it yourself, as they probably don't sell to individuals. Please assemble all of the collateral that you will need to apply for your next job while you still have your current one and access to the details and store it on a computer not owned by the company.
