I’m a junior in high school and I’m working at my local grocery store. Great pay, awesome coworkers, but they’re working me to the bone. I said 20-25 hours per week. And they’re doing that. But in the worst ways possible. 5 days of 4-6 hour shifts and all those days are in a row with only Friday and Saturday off. They gave me more than 25 this week but I assumed it was due to the super bowl. My job also requires me to step outside and with the below 0 temperatures next week I won’t be able to do this. I have school and with remote learning school is tough and I have to get ready and leave for work right after my school day is done and often times I don’t get a chance for free time OR homework and studying till 10-10:30pm. So my school isn’t suffering yet but I don’t have the mental or physical energy for this. I’ve already had to change my hours of availability on short notice before and my managers were mad at me. I don’t even take myself it’s my parents who drive me to work cause I’m unable to as I don’t have my license or permit yet and they don’t even want me working this many hours. I have to say something to my managers but I’m afraid on my 3rd short notice of a permanent schedule change (changes are supposed to be made online 21 days in advance for them to go through to the system) that they’ll just say don’t come back cause I want the money. I’m the only high school worker with 20+ hours this week. I’ve thought 4 6 hour shifts for a total of 24 hours would be perfect. They don’t even give me 8 hour shifts and I’m convinced it’s to avoid giving me 30 minute breaks because they give them to everyone else. They will give me as close as they can to 8 hours. I’m talking to my parents about this tonight as I’m talking to my managers tomorrow. What should I say?
