I’ve worked at my job for a month short of a year as a dishwasher. In this time I’ve learned almost all of the prep items and some stuff on line while running the dish pit.
Head chef at my restaurant has brought up potentially promoting me to line cook upwards of 10 or so times. Each time was fruitless. The owners of the restaurant are very greedy and don’t like giving people raises. So I made it clear with head chef that I wouldn’t want to be promoted if I wasn’t getting a raise. He agreed thats what I deserved, that I earned it and he really likes me working there. He advocates that he wants all the staff to have raises but the owners won’t do it.
The most recent time he brought up a new position of prep cook(a position that we currently don’t have at the restaurant. Everyone just helps with prep when it’s slow.) I really like working here because I think it’s a great place to get some experience and really hone in my skills. I see chef as a mentor but the constant talk of me being promoted then not is very discouraging. I’m starting to get frustrated with the situation and am thinking about bringing it up to the owners that I want a raise and to be moved up to prep cook. Im posting this to ask for advice on selling points for reasons why I’m due a promotion and if there won’t be one I’m going to walk.
In the time that I’ve worked here I’m always early, I’ve only taken a hand full of days off, I’ve improved on some recipes in back of house and have even been deemed the “best biscuit maker”. What other points could I use to reaffirm that I deserve a promotion?
TLDR; Supervisor mentioned asking owners to give me a raise multiple times, I still haven’t seen any change. What should be my reasons for a promotion?
