Looking for work, MBA, BS Finance, Goldman Sachs Alumni, manager of the 12th most successful tech accelerator in America & more

I cut my teeth at Goldman Sachs (GS) but even before joining, while doing my undergrad in Finance, I co-founded two startups & raised $1.2M in debt & equity for them. I left GS in July 2007 knowing the housing bubble was hyper-inflated & I syndicated $4M as a fundless sponsor for a footwear & hosiery startup. Months later the Great Recession was full tilt, requiring my team & I to raise another $2M to turn it around. Just 18-months after the 1st dollar was invested, after landing a 400-store test with Target, converting it to 1,788-stores, at the trough of the recession, we sold the company to a private equity investor for 3x our investment basis.

After the exit, I got the opportunity to be BoomStartup’s first manager. I wrote their playbook, built the infrastructure, managed daily operations, deal flow, diligence, LP relations & accelerated the portfolio of startups. BoomStartup became the 12th most successful Technology Accelerator in America (per TechCrunch, MIT & Darden). I have a unique problem-solving apparatus that’s especially good at pattern & trend recognition, seeing larger context pictures, interconnected reasoning & predicting how processes will play out over time, a byproduct of being left-handed & dyslexic. For example, in 2012 I recognized that U.S. Education & the digital economy it exists to support had gotten out-of-sync. This meant that Education Technology (EdTech) investment was poised for growth & since then it has grown from $900M to $11.6B in just the 1st half of 2020. So, in 2013, after recognizing this crisis & opportunity, I joined an EdTech company where I was able to gain domain expertise, develop an early-stage EdTech focused investment thesis from inside the industry & along the way my own backyard, Utah, became “the Home of EdTech.”

When the investment thesis was complete, I started pitching LPs but before I was able to reach 1st close, I was diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, last month, on January 20th, I learned that I’m now cancer-free.
